Production Units

The probationers will be sent to the 2 of the following 6 production Units viz. Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Diesel Locomotive works (DLW), Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Perambur & Kapurthala, Diesel Component Works (DCW), and Wheel & Axle Plant (WAP). The training in production Units has the following aims and objectives:
To familiarize the Probationers with the concepts/principles relating to:

    • Accounting structure of Production Units with special emphasis on the basic differences between a Workshop and the Production Unit.
    • The Incentive Schemes in Production Units
    • Use of computers in production scheduling and documentation.
    • Cost accounting in Production Units.
    • Use of computers – existing and proposed
The Dy. FA & CAOs of the production Units will personally monitor the training and also give important Audit Paras in the Unit for study and submission of a Report.
In all the PU’s, find out the level of awareness in the officers and staff about the problems being faced by IR: what is the level of the morale, are they aware of the move to corporatize, privatize etc the PU’s? How are the working conditions? Would you like to get posted there, if not why? Can you suggest any 5 improvements? Suggest any 2 items to be taken up for case study.  

1st PU
1 dayCalling on G.M., FA & CAO and other officers
1 dayVisit to Shops4 daysAccounts office working, particularly study of problems of new projects. Study of Costing system, Incentive bonus, Workshop Payment, WMS etc.    
 2nd PU
1 dayvisit to GM, FA & CAO and other officers2 dayVisit to shops3 dayEDP Center-Accounting applications, incentive and costing systems if they are different from the PU visited first.
